Veterinary Control Of Domestic Animals

Domestic animals

Species of domestic animals: dogs (Canis lupus familiaris); cats (Felis silvestris catus); polecats (Mustela putorius furo), which during a non-commercial movement accompanies an owner or an authorized person and during that time remains under the responsibility of the owner or authorized person, may be moved into the country from another country (list of other countries and their territories regarding the non-commercial movement of domestic animals across the customs border of Georgia) or its territory, if they meet the following conditions:  
 

  • Marked - by transponder implantation or clearly readable swirling used before January 1, 2020.
  • They have been vaccinated against rabies, which corresponds to the specified validity requirements;
  • A rabies antibody titration test that meets the specified validity requirements was performed;
  • They are treated with a broad-spectrum anthelmintic against endoparasites and exoparasites;
  • It is accompanied by a duly completed and issued identification document "Health Certificate" (the identification document specified in the country from EU member states and other countries or its territory can be presented in the form of a passport).

The maximum number of animals during one non-commercial movement that may accompany the owner or authorized person shall not exceed five.

    The maximum number of animals may exceed five if:

  • The non-commercial movement of domestic animals takes place in order to participate in competitions, exhibitions or sports events or in training related to such events;
  • The owner or authorized person submits a written document that the domestic animal is registered for participation in certain events or in the association that organizes such events;
  • The age of domestic animals is more than six months.

In all other cases, the animals are subject to veterinary inspection determined by the legislation of Georgia.

Transponders
 must comply with ISO standard 11784 and HDX or FDX-B technology shall be used and they must be readable by a reader device complying with ISO standard 11785.

 

"Health Certificate” or passport must include graphs with the following information:       

• The location of the transponder or swirling and the date of use or reading of the transponder or swirling, as well as the alphanumeric code of the transponder or swirling;

• Species, breed, date of birth specified by the owner, and gender and color of the pet;

• Certificate number;

• Name and contact information of the owner or authorized person;

• Name and surname, contact information and signature of the state or authorized veterinarian issuing or completing the identification document;

• Rabies vaccination details;

• Date of blood sampling for rabies antibody titration test;

•Adequacy of preventive health care measures for diseases other than rabies;
• Name and signature of the representative of the competent body performing certification;

• The name, signature and contact information of the representative of the competent authority carrying out the specified inspection and the date of the said inspection;

• Other relevant information about the health condition of the pet.

• A written declaration signed by the owner or an authorized person (Annex N5 of the Rule) is an integral part of the "Health Certificate" or passport and must be submitted, confirming that the pet is being moved for non-commercial purposes.
 
The following types of domestic animals (which accompany the owner or authorized person during non-commercial movement and remain under the responsibility of the owner or authorized person during this time):

  • Invertebrates, except: bee (Apis melifera) and bumble bee;
  • Molluscs belonging to the phylum Mollusca;
  • A crustacean belonging to the Subphylum Crustacea;
  • Ornamental aquatic animals that are raised, kept or placed on the market for ornamental purposes only;
  • Amphibians;
  • Reptiles;
  • Birds, other than chickens, turkeys, guinea-fowls, ducks, geese, quails, pigeons, pheasants, partridges and ostriches (Ratitae), used for breeding or breeding in captivity, for the production of meat or eggs for human consumption, or for repopulation purposes of animals to be hunted;
  • Mammals: rodents and hares, except those for food and defined as rabbits.


When moving to the country from another country or its territory, the following conditions shall be met:

• Marked or described taking into account the characteristics of each species of animal, in such a way as to ensure the connection between the domestic animal and its corresponding identification document.
• Complies with preventive health care measures adopted by the Agency and/or in accordance with Georgian legislation for diseases or infections other than rabies.
